I guess taking off all my clothes in front of everyone will give me the incentive to loose those extra winter lbs that seem to be showing up more and more as I get older. I still think I'm in reasonable shape for 48

Last year I asked the woman at the snackbar about the showers beside the snackbar and she told me that the park locks them and they are for the use of the people who pay to have their boats there. (she didn't like it because everyone complains to her about it)
There are indoor showers half way between the beach and the beach. There is also an outdoor shower at the entrane to the beach (I think its 1 or 2 entrances past the snack bar if your coming from Hanlans ferry dock)
NOTE: The outdoor shower is cold water (sometimes refreshing on a 30+ day), but is located next to the foot/bike path and is not in the clothing optional beach and must be wearing a swimsuit.

First, the good news: the summer ferry shcedule is now in effect, so there are more frequent trips to and from Hanlan's. Also, the shower room -- half way between the Hanlan's Point ferry dock and the tennis courts -- is now open for the summer.

Now, for the bad news: some park employee must have forgotten to turn on the water heater for the showers. If the holes in the shower heads were any larger, there would be chipped ice coming out with the water ... :0

What torontosatyr says is half right: Yes, the showers by the tennis court can only be accessed by a combination of numbers entered into a keypad lock. This has probably been done so that the showers can be used exclusively by people who moor their boats at the nearby marina. The showers halfway between the ferry dock and the tennis court will be open for the general public to use again this summer, but as of May 20/09 they are still locked from the winter period. These showers are usually opened by the end of May/beginning of June. Hope this clarifies the siutuation.

Just reading comments - are there locks on the showers - why? - can you get keys - or are they closed to the public? Where about are the showers? Did not see them at Hanlans Beach.

TallBluAmerican - the showers closest to the beach (where the snackbar is) were locked this year, but the main showers are about halfway to the dock.

It's amazing how many people stay away from the beach when the temperature falls just below 20C, like today -- there were maybe 8-10 people on the whole beach, and yet this was a perfect day for sunning. The breeze did not hit the beach (so it was not that cool), and the sun was very strong.

But I'm not complaining about the lack of people .... I got to blow a mega-hot ,tattooed guy in the showers before returning to the mainland ... yum!

More people are back at work, temperatures are a bit cooler now; however, there are still guys who go throughout September and into October -- when the weather permits -- because the sun remains hot, even if the air temperature is cooler. So .... best time to go is any afternoon that it is sunny. Many years ago Hanlans had mostly gay men.......It still attracts a large gay contingent, but there is a more diverse crowd these days.
Since this is Toronto's official Clothing Optional beach there are more women , st8 couples even whole families who go. (Reminds me of Europe)

It was warmer on the Beach Tuesday than it was in the city.
Did not feel cool at all. Don't let the temp keep you away if it is sunny and not to windy the beach is great.
