Pleasant large downtown square full of cinemas, yes, a couple of porno ones with action in ajoining streets.
Crowd: Was much crusier years ago with gay bars and clubs all round about it. Sadly, when I went back last year found most had dissapeared including my old favourite gay club in the world, Bohemia. But Amarallinhos, an institution in Rio as a mixed, rather THE mixed gay/straight bar (right through the dictatorship and everything)in Rio is still there and going strong. Round the square there is still alot of cruising and rent boy action. The bar itself is worth a visit; Best place for a relaxing drink in the square while people watching and cruising. Much more authentically carioca (of Rio) than anything in copacabana or the southside.
