cruiser update 4/22/2009:The sand dunes at Coatham are busy on any sunny afternoon. You can park at Redcar as described and walk about a mile to the west, or it seems safe enough to drive. Coming from Middlesbrough take the A1085 trunk road, left at the lights at Loke Park to Coatham, over the railway bridge, left at the mini roundabout, through Warrenby, right at the next mini roundabout and follow the "private" road until you find several cars parked at the road side opposite the steel works fence, park there and walk across the dunes towards the sea.

Nudity very common in summer.

Photo makes steel works look closer than they are - but a useful landmark.

Previous comment: Large dunes area north of main beaches for town. Steel works to the west of the beach can cause some dust and smoke but worth it for the lovely sandy areas and solitude near the Tees estuary. Nice secluded dips in dunes for sunbathing and other!
Crowd: Nudists and naturists of all ages.
