Oka Provincial Park, located a bit west of Montreal, is on the shore of Lac des Deux Montagnes (Lake of the Two Mountains)a wide body of water downstream from the mouth of the Ottawa river. The broad sandy nude beach is very popular despite the long walk required to reach. Regulars have named the nude beach OKApulco, and crowds of 300 to 500 nudists visit on peak days. The beach attracts a diversity of people - gay, straight, singles, couples, and families. Swimming and beach volleyball are popular. Gay men tend to gather at the extreme east end of the beach. Although nudity is not officially allowed, an organized group of naturists has championed the cause of the nude beach. While the ultimate goal of an official clothing optional status has yet to be achieved, their efforts have ensured that local law enforcement officials and police do not hassle nudists. The nude beach has no amenities.
