Calle Valverde 7.
Gay Hostel nice and clean, very friendly staff. Small rooms, small baths, but adequate, especially considering the price. On a fairly noisy side street across from a very noisy bar for straight teens who will wake everyone up as they depart between 6:30 and 7:30 AM on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The Hostel starts one flight up from the ground floor and the sign is easy to miss. Free internet access on one desk computer, and free wireless if you bring your own. Very centrally located and easy access to metro one block away. ten minute walk to Puerta del Sol
Crowd: Gay men, mostly, but not exclusively gay.

Calle Montera 22
This is an excellent pace to stay if you are having a few days in Madrid. It is clean, modern and reasonably priced (100 euros per night per double/twin room).Staff are friendly, polite and helpful. Biggest advantage is the position. It is only five minutes walk from the bars in the Chueca district and perfect as a base for sightseeing.
Crowd: This is not a gay hotel, but several others were staying there when we were.
