There are three entry points to the beach from the parking lot. Some guys stand in or near entrances and occasionally rub crotch to indicate they want action. Careful as this is also public access. Don't want to scare the straight tourists.

St Petersburg-From I-275 38th Ave North Exit. Go West apprx. 10 miles to Tyrone Blvd. Turn right. Follow overhead sign to Madeira Beach(RT 666). After passing over draw bridge turn left at Gulf Blvd. Go a few blocks to 146th. Back Room Bar is behind The Cocktail Club on your left.
Cross street: 146th Avenue
  • Crowd:Some locals but mainly tourists looking to get off
  • Hours:Evenings around 8 to 10, but some daytime action
  • Cruising Info/ Tips:Cops circle in through the parking lot, be discreet.
    Cruisiest Spots: Anywhere along the concrete barrier between the beach and parking lot. I have met some guys there in the last 12 years. Some have walked the short distance up the beach to my place for private times.
  • Wheelchair Accessible:No
  • Warnings:Fairly quiet as far as cops are concerned, just be discreet

  • that old fat guy you speak of is the most friendly, wonderful man you might ever want to meet and he has a name, it is Richard. He has been a fixture at the Backroom for many years and has a great following.
    What I don't understand is, if you found it so distressing why did you not turn around and walk out the door to a nicer place. I admit, that bar could do with a but of a face lift, but i suspect you could as well. I am always amazed at the comments here about the backroom from guys who do not know its history nor or how it has served as a place for older lonier guys to go for some company. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Each are allowed their opinion and i respect you for yours. Had to add my 2 cents worth.

  • i live down the street and i have been in some real dives in my life and i am not a grand diva. But,,,,the backroom bar is by far the most depressing place i have ever been to. When iggy was working i could always count on a good drink, last time i was in there an old fat guy with a nervous disorder waited on me. Cant they at least come up with some decent help? Youll have more luck tricking at the str8 bar in front.
