This is a brand new gym in West Des Moines, IA. Gold's opened in November of 2008. Everything is brand new and in great shape. You need a membership to get in, which is about $30 a month. The best features at Gold's are the large Sauna, single shower-stalls (big enough for two or more, with two curtains for privacy), and a "Cardio Cinema". The Cardio Cinema is a dark room with cardio equipment and a large screen projector. You get to watch movies and work out at the same time.

Neighbourhood: West Des Moines

Take the freeway, Iowa 235, to the 22nd street exit. Turn north on 22nd street, then it is only one half block to your left. You will see the huge Gold's Gym sign.
  • Hours:Gold's Gym is open from 5am to 10PM.
  • Cruising Info/ Tips:The cruisiest spots are the showers and the sauna. The showers are a better bet because they afford more privacy. The sauna is great later at night when there aren't very many people around.
  • Nudity / Policy:Nudity in the locker room is allowed and very common. There are a lot of muscled up men walking around totally naked.
  • Wheelchair Accessible:No / This brand new gym is completely handicap accessible, with great shower and workout facilities for those with handicaps.
  • Warnings:Make sure you are discreet, this can be a busy place!

  • i'm going to revise my previous remarks about the sauna. the door is at the fromt and the overall depth (while narrow inside) is easily 15 feet or so, which makes activity at the back of the sauna near the rocks undetectable unless the door is opened.

  • I don't think I'd be so recommending of the shower areas....the curtains don't go all the way to the floor, so extra pairs of feet is gonna look REAL obvious. As for the sauna...it doesn't have a protective curtain, so anybody walks around the wrong corner is gonna see.

    As for the cinema-room I say you take your chances, but I don't think the room is monitored with a camera or anything. Not yet anyway.

  • The sauna here is really great, and the cardio cinema has been really fun. I've had the most luck later at night, around 10. I'm not sure what it's like in the morning.
