Issos Beach- Sand Dunes

Is This Your Business?

If you are really looking for one of the most beautiful beaches on the planet, head for Issos beach and sand dunes. It is an undiscovered treasure. The sand dunes are also unique, dotted with a rare type of juniper and the occasional goatherder. This beach is humongous. It stretches for many kilometers, but is also deep, IE away from development and very natural setting, a lot like Maspalomas dunes on Canaria, but warmer, and with hardly any people(compared to that otherplace in Spain). Seriously, very few people actually venture very far north of the parking lot even in the height of the season. This is a long sandy coastline, Issos is North of 'St. George South', which makes that tourist resort a great place to stay.(Palm Beach Hotel, Corfu Plaza Hotel are both located closest to this beach, but over a kilometer of sandy beach and dunes between them and Issos nude area. There are also many small domatia(rooms). (Lord Travel is an agent that specializes in the area and arranges transfers from airport too when you book rooms through them.
It is less windy in the morning. This beach also has great sport activity, with para sailing, wind surfing, kite surfing and katamaran/sailboat rentals available.
I have read the other postings about Almyros, San Stefano and considering how long it takes to drive to them, I would not bother if I was staying close to anything in the central or south part of the islands. And the truth is, that wherever there is nude sunbathing and men, you can expect to find cruising opportunities. This is my favorite beach, but I can not say it is my favorite place to find nude men and action.(Have not posted that yet... but it is by Myrtiotissa).
Crowd: Tourists, locals all ages, but later afternoon and clothed part of beach have more young people. More Italians and Greeks in August. More Germans, Dutch, Belgians, and Brits in off season.(acutally- British and Germans all season long)

Neighbourhood: Lake Korison - Chlomos-St. George South

Southwest Corfu Island. This beach is located on the front of a large dune area that has been set aside as protected national parkland. It borders Lake Korison on the southside. Take the road from Corfu Town towards Lefkimmi or vice versa if you are located in the south and heading north from Kavos, or Lefkimmi. This area is south of Messogion. At the St. George South, Chlomos area look for road heading west to Issos Beach, Lake Korison. follow road all the way to end, becomes dirt track, but cars are ok all the way to the main part of the beach where there is a large parking lot. To get to the nude areas, walk north(away from the town of St. George) along the beach from the parking lot until you see people without clothing! There are some Juniper bushes on the dune hillside that can make great shelter too.

  • Hours:All day. Tourist action more likely in morning, Greek locals are more available from the afternoon and early evening times(siesta)(this goes for all Greek beaches in general).
  • Cruising Info/ Tips:Eye contact, 'display' your goods to guys who seem particularly interested. (you will find shy guys who don't go nude and hang in the more public clothed area take occasional walks to the nude area to check out the possibilities. I thought I got nowhere with one, but when I went back to my car to leave later in the day, he came right up to my car to hit me up. Lesson- don't expect to get down to it on the beach, instead, meet up, and head for the dunes or a room.
Younger men in general seem to stay in the clothed area.
Cruisiest Spots: Further north than most of the heterosexual sunbathers. Guys try to hook up, but then apparently head off into the dunes for action.
  • Nudity / Policy:Yes / Technically by law, nudity is not allowed in ANY Greek beach, but in places like Issos, Myrtiotissa etc, it is never enforced, but if there are authorities anywhere you are trying to nude sunbathe, you might want to wait. I have never seen any authority on Issos north of the parking lot. It is a very large area and there are very few law enforcement in the region- they spending most of their time in Kavos trying to control all the British teenagers that have chosen that town as their beer binging heaven. If the authorities go there, it would be to break up the illegal camping.
  • Wheelchair Accessible:No
  • Warnings:Unsuspecting hetero couples who plop down right next to you when you are trying to establish some contact with another dude.
