Update 5/13/2008: This rest area was closed for several months this winter but is open again now

There are a few secluded spots and alot of trails.
Crowd: Lots of straight .

From 321 go to Main Street and turn on to Hwy 221. Go about 1.5 to 2 miles up and just as you pass the road to the Blue Ridge Parkway (on right) the entrance is on the left to the rest area.
Cross street: Shulls Mill Rd/Blue Ridge Parkway
  • Crowd:Lots of straight .
  • Hours:24/7
    Best times: noon till 2:00pm then 4:00pm to 9:00pm
  • Cruising Info/ Tips:The place really jumps around 3:00pm in the spring,summer,&fall. Be careful of the college kids. There is a trail that they follow to rock climb, they know whats going on.
  • Wheelchair Accessible:No
  • Warnings:DMV clean the bathrooms around 10:00am daily M-F (no weekends)and hang around till 12:00pm just to be holes
    Warnings: I have only seen one police car park and sit. It was a DMV. Blowing Rock patrols the area but never stops . they just drive through.

  • it is now open again for the summer,,this is the rest stop for parkway on hwy 221 west of Blowing Rock,

  • Will someone give an update? I passed by a couple of weeks ago and it was closed off from both ends like the on that used to be on old 421. Where is evryone going now?

  • in blowing rock nc...off hwy 321 onto hwy 221 and the parkway...its a rest area...easy to find
